Polish IT companies expanding into NRW – strong potential, clear rules

.

Last week, TIGGES – represented by our partner Tomasz Baron, LL.M. – took part in a hands-on networking event that supported Polish IT companies in entering the German market, with a particular focus on North Rhine-Westphalia as a key gateway.

NRW is not only Germany's largest economic region, but also one of Europe's most dynamic IT hubs. Strong demand for digitalisation among German companies meets outstanding technological expertise from Polish software and IT providers – a combination with significant growth potential.

During the event, we addressed in particular:

  • the legal and tax framework for entering the German market
  • common market entry models (sales structures, branches, subsidiaries)
  • key contractual and liability aspects when working with German clients
  • how to structure market entry in a legally sound and risk-aware manner from the outset

Our key takeaway: interest is high and many projects are becoming increasingly concrete – while at the same time there is a clear need for reliable structures, local networks and legal certainty.

Many thanks to NRW.Global Business Poland, SoDA – Software Development Association Poland and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for their excellent cooperation in preparing this event. We also thank Vanessa La Fico Guzzo, Oliver Burrak, Thomas Scheler, Przemek Mikus, Piotr Pomian-Kruszyński and Jan Ćwiek for their valuable contributions, as well as all participants for the open and constructive exchange.

Events like this clearly demonstrate the value of close Polish-German cooperation, especially in the IT sector. We look forward to the next steps in 2026 and to supporting more Polish tech companies on their expansion journey into NRW.
